Session 1: The Culture Factory
Creating an equitable world where everyone belongs takes more than just a commitment: we need new stories that represent our vibrant country and it’s diverse communities. Creative work has the power to reshape culture: stories and images tell us about the world we live in and who we can become. We’ll explore the building blocks of cultural representation in creative work, which brands are getting it right, and how to avoid getting representation wrong. Participants will leave with tools for identifying and evaluating cultural representation, and ideas about how everyone can contribute to building better stories. Whether you are a creator, supporter, or consumer this session with give you a new lens to look at representation and some of today’s hottest topics from cancel culture to cultural appropriation.
Session 2: Building Inclusion From Inside to Out
Creating inclusive work is a good look for brands—and the bottom line. Brands have power to connect their consumers across boundaries of race, gender, and identity but they need agencies prepared to partner with them on that journey. We’ll examine the opportunities that JKR can leverage by creating culturally conscious work, and the benefits you can bring to clients trying to reach a more diverse world. Everyone in the agency, no matter the role, has a part to play. We will talk about what it means to bring a DEI lens to your work. We’ll look at strategies for building belonging internally and in the work from staffing and supporting operations, to creative, to supporting clients in an increasingly fractious environment. You will leave with action steps you can take day-to-day to support an inclusive culture, showcasing a future where all people have a chance to shine.
